If you feel like your makeup doesn’t suit you perfectly, TikTok might now have a solution. With the so-called “contrast make-up” everyone should be able to put on make-up to suit their facial features. “Contrast make-up” distinguishes between three different contrast levels: low, medium and high. The focus here is on skin, eyes, hair and eyebrows. However, it’s not about the colors themselves, but how much they differ from complexion and skin tone. Although you can create targeted contrasts through make-up, the trend is about adjusting the make-up so that it ideally fits and harmonizes with your facial features.

Finding the right contrast level is the hardest part of this TikTok trend. For this reason, here are the characteristics for the different types of makeup:

Low contrast:

This method is for everyone who has light facial features and whose skin and hair are not too different from their eyes. In this case, soft make-up without harsh transitions and natural tones are the right choice. However, that doesn’t mean you can only wear a no-makeup makeup look – on the contrary. It depends much more on the intensity of the shade and the difference between skin tone and the shades used for makeup. For a harmonious image, choose a color that is more intense than your skin tone, but still gentle.

Medium contrast:

If there is a small difference between the face, hair, eyes and eyebrows, it needs to be supplemented with a little intensity. The right lipstick and blush can be crucial here. This makes the make-up look much more balanced. If you have particularly dark eyes, you can use smokey eyes to give them more intensity and reduce the contrast between your eyes and your skin tone.
