Woman charged with murder in Surrey, British Columbia, stabbing

A 36-year-old woman charged with aggravated assault and battery with a weapon following a stabbing last month in Surrey, British Columbia, has now been charged with murder after the victim died in hospital.

Jennifer Kipp was arrested on September 8, just hours after the victim was left unconscious in hospital in the early morning attack in central Surrey.

Mounties were called to the area of 108 Avenue and King George Boulevard at 2:16 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian being injured, apparently struck by a vehicle.

However, when officers arrived, they discovered that the victim had not been hit by a vehicle but had been stabbed multiple times.

The victim, who was not identified by police, died in hospital on September 13.

On Monday, Surrey RCMP confirmed the charge against Kipp had been upgraded to a single count of second-degree murder, saying in a statement that the victim’s family “has been notified and is providing assistance.”

Court records show the defendant remains in police custody pending a bail hearing. Her appearance in Surrey Provincial Court is scheduled for Oct. 11.

“Surrey RCMP extends our deepest condolences to the family,” the police statement said.
