Snack bar advertises with UFO kebab – that’s behind the new food trend

A kebab that doesn’t spill? The UFO kebab promises exactly that. But not everyone is enthusiastic about the food trend of a Hamburg snack bar.

Hamburg – If you’re going on a date afterwards, you probably shouldn’t eat a kebab beforehand. On the one hand, it is an unwritten rule that you can only enjoy the store snack with a lot of garlic. On the other hand, it borders on the impossibility of eating a kebab without getting your hands dirty. But: This is exactly the problem that the so-called “UFO kebab” is supposed to solve. This special snack has already caused a real hype in Hamburg.

New food trend from Hamburg: “Ufo-Kebab” advertises a clean eating experience

The basis of the “Ufo kebab” is the same as a traditional kebab – only the flatbread is different. Instead of slicing the bread at the top, it is closed all around with a contact grill, similar to a sandwich maker. This means that the filling can no longer fall out. The price: 6.90 euros. Also comparatively cheap.

On an advertising sign, which can also be found on Reddit, the owner praises his “world first” that is “completely closed!” The motto is: “Tasty instead of messy”.

Mixed reactions online – between curiosity and rejection

The idea, which originally comes from Korea, is met with mixed reactions online. “This looks like those cheap weapons, only this time pressed into a UFO shape,” someone commented under the image posted on Reddit. Another user says: “If you’re too stupid to eat kebab, you won’t get one, that’s easy.”

Another user claims to have already seen the devices online and to have known about the trend for a long time: “These things have been around in Korea for what feels like ten years. The machines for this are available cheaply (…)”. Even if it looks unconventional, the UFO kebab probably won’t get in the way with the kebab purity law planned by traditionalists.

However, there are also supporters: “Tasty instead of messy, that’s almost an argument,” is how one fan defends the product. The fact that the kebab is good to eat while walking or even cycling is also emphasized. “Actually pretty cool,” said another comment. “It doesn’t look so bad.” I would at least test it out,” said another Reddit user, open to the “UFO”. One user is completely thrilled: “One more reason to go to Hamburg,” he writes. By the way, the “best kebab in the world” is said to be found in Vienna – but here too, opinions differ.

Snack bar triggers hype online

The round kebab is available at “Mönkey’s Kebab & Fries” on Mönckebergstrasse in Hamburg. The owner, Kerim Hüdür, is aware of the trend in Korea and emphasizes it bild.de: “We are the first in Germany to implement it.” Around 300 UFO kebabs were sold per day.

Thanks to social media, the kebab is definitely a hit – many influencers are trying out the food trend in TikTok videos and rating it. The long queue in front of the store also speaks for its success. An influencer’s – admittedly original – creation of a Leberkas kebab has not yet caused such hype.
