Which games in Jacksonville are canceled?

(This story has been updated to add new information.)

For the second time in two weeks, tropical weather is disrupting the high school sports schedule in Northeast Florida.

Duval County Public Schools announced the cancellation of three days of sporting events, including high school football in Florida, while closing schools Wednesday through Friday in advance of Hurricane Milton. The St. Johns County School District followed suit later Monday afternoon.

The cancellations apply to events from Wednesday, October 9th to Friday, October 11th, including all extracurricular events scheduled for these dates.

In many cases, the scheduled football games were part of a district competition that must be rescheduled at a later date under Florida High School Athletic Association rules. Catch-up dates will be announced later.

Duval school officials said the district will make an announcement about operations next week after the Category 5 hurricane passes.

In addition to football, events in other fall sports will also be removed from the calendar, including dates for the Gateway Conference Volleyball Championship and the Gateway Conference Diving Tournament.

The Putnam County School District also closed schools on Wednesday and Thursday and postponed extracurricular activities from Tuesday to Thursday, but has not yet made a decision about Friday events.

Hurricane Milton: 175 mph storm threatens Florida

These postponements are the second round for Northeast Florida in about two weeks after Hurricane Helene also wiped out numerous games before making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend on September 26th.

At the time of the 2 p.m. report, the National Hurricane Center recorded sustained winds of 175 mph for Milton, rapidly increasing from tropical storm status to a Category 5 hurricane in less than 30 hours.

The hurricane center forecasts the hurricane is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday, although the exact direction and intensity are uncertain.
