Haryana Election Results 2024 Live Updates: BJP hopes for a hat-trick as Congress makes its mark again after a 10-year gap

Live Haryana Election Results: Political parties and leaders are eagerly awaiting the results in Haryana as the day approaches. The ruling BJP is optimistic of securing a third term in office while the Congress, out of power for a decade, is hoping for a comeback. Results will be announced on Tuesday. According to officials, all preparations, including strict security measures, have been completed for the counting process, which will begin at 8 am on October 8.

Haryana Returning Officer Pankaj Agarwal said that a three-tier security system has been put in place at the counting centers.

These elections in Haryana mark the first significant direct contest between the BJP and the Congress after the Lok Sabha elections. The result is expected to shape the narrative of future elections in states such as Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi, where polls are scheduled in the coming months.

The major players in the race include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, INLD-BSP and JJP-Azad Samaj Party. However, it is expected that there will be a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress in most seats.

Jammu and Kashmir also held elections at the same time as Haryana, but most constituencies saw multi-faceted electoral contests rather than a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress.

In Haryana, 1,031 candidates, including 464 independents and 101 women, contested in the 90 constituencies during the single-phase election on October 5. The state recorded a voter turnout of 67.9 percent with several polls predicting a Congress victory.

Although the polls predicted a big victory for the Congress, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence that the BJP would get a full majority and form the government for the third time when the results were declared on October 8, they would probably use electronic voting machines for the same hold responsible.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a potential chief ministerial candidate, expressed optimism of securing a clear majority. Responding to BJP leaders’ claims of victory, Hooda remarked: “What else can they say? The truth will emerge once the results are available.”
