Sam Gillingham was 16 when her mother, Carole Packman, disappeared from the family’s suburban home in the seaside resort of Bournemouth in 1985. Her daughter Sam thought her mother was tired of living under the same roof as her husband’s new co-worker – and, as it turned out, lover. A year earlier, Russell had invited 26-year-old Patricia Causley to the family home as a lodger. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that Russell reported Carole missing to the police.
