Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment hearing begins: The Kenyan National Assembly debates the impeachment of the deputy president

Kenya’s National Assembly will not begin debating a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua, stand before the Imkotri National Assembly to defend against an impeachment motion. We are Member of Parliament (MP), we represent Kibwezi West, Mwengi Mutuse is a sponsor.

Mwengi Motion, Speaker of Parliament Moses Wetang’ula officially informed members on Tuesday last week and gave 11 reasons for impeachment.

Based on the National Assembly’s ordinance paper on Tuesday, the proposer, Mwengi will take at least an hour to explain all the reasons.

Afterwards, Vice President Gachagua gets the chance to defend IMSEF.

For the House of Representatives to impeach the deputy president, it is not enough to prove that any of the 11 reasons or allegations are true.

Among the 11 grounds for the impeachment debate is the allegation that the deputy president received a hand for the violent protest that Wey Bin suffered three months ago.

I also claim that I am blamed for corruption, promoting tribalism and division for counter-politics.

During the presentation, Mwengi said the deputy president committed gross misconduct amounting to insurrection by directly contradicting presidential directives and undermining cabinet decisions.

The MP also accused the deputy owner of 20 companies of committing economic crimes against the government.
