Samsung Electronics posted unexpected operating income of KRW 9 trillion in the third quarter.

At first glance, Samsung Electronics’ third-quarter earnings remained strong compared to last year’s semiconductor recession.

Operating profit nearly quadrupled from KRW 9.0 trillion last year.

Sales break quarterly record in two and a half years

However, it did not meet market expectations.

Even the exchange’s expected operating profit, which was drastically reduced to around 10 trillion won, was significantly lower.

Samsung Electronics sees a decline in demand for memory semiconductors due to adjustments in smartphone inventory.

Chinese companies’ ambition and Nvidia’s delay in HBM quality verification were cited as reasons for the poor performance.

The stock price, which fell to 50,000 won the day before, secured 60,000 won.

It closed at 60,300 won, down 1.15% from the previous trading day.

Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, head of the semiconductor division, offered a rare apology shortly after the earnings report, focusing on addressing concerns.

We apologize for causing concerns about performance not meeting expectations.

Management took the lead and said it would take another leap forward with new technology and quality competitiveness that does not exist in this world.

Previously, Chairman Lee Jae-yong also said he would not spin off the foundry division in the Philippines, which he visited on a business trip.

Analysts say Chairman Lee’s comments represented a direct breakthrough given the growing gap with industry No. 1 TSMC.

Amid concerns that Samsung Electronics’ crisis theory has become a reality, attention is focused on the measures that Chairman Lee Jae-yong and management will take to overcome the crisis.
