Where does 247Sports rank Oklahoma Football’s remaining schedule?

The Oklahoma Sooners knew they had a tough schedule ahead when they decided to move to the SEC. When the schedules for the 2024 season were released, it was clear that OU lost out.

Brent Venables’ team is 1-1 in conference play after the first bye week and 4-1 overall. Only a ten-point loss to Tennessee kept Oklahoma off the undefeated list.

But the schedule continues to get tougher for the Sooners, starting with a showdown with the top-ranked team in the country in week seven. The Texas Longhorns will face OU in the Cotton Bowl for the 2024 edition of the biggest rivalry game, the Red River Rivalry.

But the big opponent isn’t everything for Oklahoma. In fact, 247Sports college football writer Brad Crawford believes the Sooners have the second-toughest remaining schedule in all of college football, behind only their SEC opponent Florida.

Here’s what Crawford had to say about Oklahoma in his list of the toughest remaining schedules in the country.

The starting signal for Oklahoma begins with Saturday’s duel against Texas in Dallas. This is the first of five games the rest of the season against the SEC’s top competition. New starting quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. has a lot of work ahead of him considering the Longhorns are undefeated and he’ll face four ranked opponents outside of Norman’s friendly fields the rest of the way. –Crawford, 247Sports

OU has five ranked opponents remaining on the schedule: Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama and LSU. Only the game against the Crimson Tide will be played at home, as the Sooners will travel to Oxford, Columbia and Baton Rouge after their neutral game in Dallas. This does not include a home game against a strong South Carolina team.

Gone are the days when teams like Iowa State, West Virginia and TCU were part of the Sooners’ Big 12 roster. They have been replaced by much tougher opponents. But with tougher competition comes a better platform to express oneself to the college football public. And it starts this week against the No. 1 team in the country.
