Ian Wright reveals his only ‘concern’ about Bukayo Saka at Arsenal | football

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Bukayo Saka after an exceptional start to the season but admits he is “concerned” about the sheer number of games the striker is playing.

Saka has been flying at the seams this season, scoring two goals and seven assists, leaving Arsenal third in the Premier League table.

Having scored and assisted both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli in Arsenal’s recent comeback win over Southampton, Saka stands alone as the top assist provider in Europe’s top five leagues.

The 23-year-old attacker also got on the scoresheet in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and will no doubt look to continue his impressive form during the international break with England.

Ex-Arsenal striker Wright remains impressed by Saka’s performances and is “not fussed” about the constant comparisons to rival players. Ally McCoist is the latest to dismiss claims the winger is “world class”.

But as the games become increasingly crowded for Saka, Wright has concerns about the workload the Arsenal man is having to take on at a relatively young age.

“He’s constantly being compared to different players and what they do, but his consistency since he’s been in the team has been amazing,” Wright said on Optus Sport’s The Kelly & Wrighty show.

“At the moment he has the most assists in the top five leagues and people are asking how good he is.”

“But I’m not really worried in that regard because since he’s been there, and remember he’s only 23, he’s still delivering excellence in terms of creativity, defensive work and everything he does for the team.”

“One thing we’re all worried about at Arsenal is the number of games he plays and hopefully he doesn’t break down, but if you look at him he’s doing everything we all expect of him and that’s why it may be underestimated.”‘

Wright added: “Next of course he has to try to finish the season and win titles for Arsenal, win the Champions League and win medals for England.”

“What we see in terms of the way he plays… we know he has a signature move where he goes out and cuts in and rolls it in, but people can’t stop that. “He’s going to cut inside and play a one-two and people can’t stop it.

“The most important thing for him is to keep working on the good things he’s doing and then of course he’s added goals to his game too, he’s added that defensive aspect because Arsenal are trying to be a bit more defensive and stick to what what they have.” to a certain extent.

“But he does it in every way, and in every way, and does it well.”

Wright expressed frustration with the “world class” debate that Saka appears to be following, describing it as a “clickbait conversation.”

“That’s the problem.” [with the ‘world-class’ debate]. When you watch the World Cup, that’s what you see. You see world-class players, [Zinedine] “Zidane, Kaka and all these players won the World Cup,” he argued.

“That’s people’s way of saying, ‘He’s not world class, he’s not world class.’

“It’s just kind of a clickbait conversation. It’s so annoying.”

Arsenal had to make a huge effort to beat Southampton last weekend and Wright believes the Gunners will need to draw on the same fighting spirit if they are to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

“It’s a situation where “Arsenal know exactly what they have to do this season, they have done that in the last two seasons,” he continued.

“The first season they tested it and were very happy that they were able to compete. “Last season I was very disappointed that they didn’t finish it even though they played so well to get where they did got there.

“This season they’ve started to know that they’re not giving anything away in terms of margins, they know what matters.” The second half of last season saw 19 games, 16 wins, a draw and a loss against Villa, and that was enough not to win the league.

“As bad as they played against Southampton and they are trying to pull it off at the moment, especially without someone like Martin Odegaard, but Southampton came and made it very difficult, as anyone will do, and they overcame it and they.” and that is what you must do at this stage.’
