The seven people, including sub-inspector Shravan Joshi, who headed the district’s cyber cell, were suspended after a preliminary probe confirmed the Indian Police Service (IPS) officer’s claims.

Jaipur district Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ajay Pal Lambha said the cyber cell personnel had traced the SP’s location 15 times. “This is the first time such an incident has occurred and it is a crime,” Lamba said.

However, it is unclear why the cyber cell was tracking the district SP’s mobile phone.

Lamba said this needs to be investigated. “The investigation has been assigned to an officer of the rank of Deputy SP who will submit a report in a day or two focusing on the motive behind the act,” the IGP said, adding that action will be taken against it A decision will be made about the seven people after receiving this report.

When contacted, Jyeshtha Maitrei, a 2017 batch IPS officer, said she was informed that seven police officers had been suspended. “I am the victim of this conspiracy, how can I give details,” said Maitrei, who complained to the police headquarters.

Apart from Shravan Joshi, police chief Avnish Kumar and constables Rahul, Satish, Deepak, Bhim and Rohitash were suspended.

Maitrei, who hailed from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, cleared the civil services exam in 2017. After completing the training in 2018, she took charge as Deputy SP in Udaipur’s Girwa Circle. She was later posted as Bhilwara SP and subsequently served as Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Branch (DCP), Jaipur.
