Badosa moves back to Wuhan

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa withdrew from the Wuhan Open shortly before her first match due to a gastrointestinal illness – and is thus avoiding discussions in view of the latest accusations of racism. Badosa has been heavily criticized in recent days, triggered by a photo in which she appears to be imitating a Chinese face: in a restaurant, she is holding chopsticks to the corners of her eyes.

The photo was taken on the sidelines of the tournament in Shanghai last week. Badosa’s trainer posted it on social networks, including the British Telegraph. The image sparked widespread outrage and has since been deleted.

The tennis player then apologized on Platform

Badosa was replaced in Wuhan by Italian Lucia Bronzetti, who will now face Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.
