Man accused of trespassing arrested after also admitting to setting vehicle fire

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A suspected arsonist is behind bars after officials said he admitted to setting a vehicle on fire. He is said to have confessed to the crime while in custody for trespassing.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, arson investigators arrested 27-year-old Kadorius Thomas and booked him into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on Monday, Oct. 7, on charges of simple arson and criminal trespass.

The vehicle fire that Thomas is believed to have caused occurred on Saturday, October 5, around 8:30 p.m.

According to the fire department, emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident and discovered that the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.

Officials said fire investigators concluded the fire was intentionally set and caused approximately $40,000 in damage.

During a separate investigation, Baton Rouge police reported encountering Thomas at the property where the fire started.

Officials said police arrested him after staff at the property told them he was not authorized to be there.

According to the fire department, Thomas waived his Miranda rights during an interview with the fire investigator and admitted to both trespassing and setting the vehicle on fire.
