These M4 MacBook Pro leaks are getting crazier and I don’t know what to believe anymore

Apple hasn’t announced a Mac event for October yet, but leaks about the M4 MacBook Pro continue to circulate. A new tweet from Apple leaker ShrimpApplePro and a new Russian unboxing video have been spotted by Tom’s Hardware, adding more momentum to this possibly real and definitely unprecedented Apple leak. The tweet claims a seller in a private Facebook group has 200 units of the M4 MacBook Pro for sale, adding: “This is probably the biggest inventory loss I’ve ever seen.”

The unboxing video posted by Russian YouTuber Romancev768 (1.5 million subscribers) shows the alleged M4 MacBook in more detail than another unboxing video posted on Monday. It brings up the About This Mac window, which shows a date of 2024 and recognizes the device as an M4 model. Footage of the laptop also confirms that it has three Thunderport 4 ports.

The retail box in this video still features the M3 wallpaper, and the device’s color and ports match those of the currently available MacBook Pros M3 Pro and M3 Max. Typically, Apple changes the wallpaper on the box with each new MacBook.

The look of the laptop doesn’t set it apart from previous models – although this could certainly apply to the real M4 MacBook Pro. All information released so far by industry experts and analysts suggests that this model will eventually not see any major design changes.

As for the Facebook group selling 200 units of this yet unannounced MacBook, there’s no way to tell if it’s real or not. These YouTubers must be getting the product from somewhere, and every box or laptop we saw was in English, suggesting they could be from the same place, but there’s really no way to know.

If that’s true, things must be really bad for Apple’s employees right now, and in the unlikely event that the company really did intend to release this model with a reused wallpaper, I’ll bet it’s in a hurry to get one to produce new ones. It’s possible that Apple is keeping the launch of the M4 MacBook Pros a secret as speculation mounts that the company might skip an October event and announce the laptops in a press release.
