What we know about Oregon State’s 2025 football schedule

What we know about Oregon State’s 2025 football schedule

The Pac-12’s rebuild isn’t the only thing on the mind of Oregon State athletics.

There’s the matter of producing a 2025 football schedule.

Without a conference to lean into next season, Oregon State is essentially building a 12-game schedule of nonconference opponents. The Beavers have seven games under contract for 2025, including Pac-12 teammate Washington State.

Here are the current games under contract:

Aug. 30:California

Sept. 6: Fresno State

Sept. 13: at Texas Tech

Sept. 20: at Oregon

Sept. 27:Houston

Oct. 25: Wake Forest (could move to Oct. 11)

TBA: at Washington State

Of the five remaining games, one is likely to be an FCS opponent, a game to be played in Reser Stadium. OSU athletic director Scott Barnes told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he anticipates a six-game home schedule for 2025.

Given that, three of the four remaining games (outside an FCS game) will be played on the road. Barnes said Oregon State is in “final negotiations” with two games, and the others are buttoned up. He expects to have a schedule finalized within the next two weeks.

Which schools could finish off Oregon State’s 2025 schedule?

FBschedules.com recently reported a list of schools needing at least one game for next season. Among those in need of a game are Baylor, Duke, LSU, Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, SMU and Stanford.

It’s likely that two of the 2025 games will be against Mountain West schools. For several months this year, MWC schools were anticipating having Oregon State and Washington State on their 2025 schedules before that arrangement blew up in August. Several have openings.

The SEC, ACC and AAC are worth watching. All have eight-game conference schedules, with room for four nonconference games. SEC schools often play a late-season nonconference game. Mississippi was one SEC school that recently had an opening before it came to an agreement with Washington State earlier this week.

Likely, Oregon State’s 2025 home schedule will be California, Fresno State, Houston, Wake Forest, an unnamed MWC, and an FCS school. The road games are Texas Tech, Oregon, Washington State and three to be named.

One of those three remaining road games could be in the Eastern time zone. Among schools that are three time zones away with an opening are Appalachian State, Duke, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Kent State, Miami, Pitt, Rutgers, Temple and Connecticut. OSU has played three games in the Eastern time zone during the past decade in Purdue (2021), Ohio State (2018) and Michigan (2015).
