The leopard print is back and with it autumn. But how do you best style this timeless trend pattern?

Fashion Week in Paris has produced some new fashion highlights. One trend in particular stands out on the catwalks of various fashion houses: leopard print. This timeless, sometimes controversial pattern will once again be an indispensable part of many wardrobes, especially in autumn.

Leopard print at Fashion Week

For fashion lovers, Fashion Week in Paris is a source of inspiration. This year too, numerous trends came together in the “City of Love” and leopard print also made a few appearances. Whether on the catwalks or in the clothing of the visitors: the eye-catching pattern was present in every case. As “Vogue” showed, model Kate Moss, 50, was seen wearing a leopard-look coat on the way to one of the shows. Combined with a simple, black outfit, she was able to turn heads with this look.

Who else is doing it?

Supermodel Kate Moss is considered a pioneer of leopard print. She combined her outfits with a leopard-look bag back in the 90s. She showed this look again at this year’s Fashion Week, proving its timelessness.

Hailey Bieber, 27, was recently photographed in an outfit that was both unusual and extremely fashionable. She combined a long coat in a leopard look with a bag in the same pattern and made a daring combination.

But the trend has long since caught on with German celebrities too. This is proven by “Maxton Hall” actress Harriet Herbig-Matten, 21. At the end of August she wore a dress in the popular animal pattern, which she then showed off on Instagram. She showed her preference for the so-called leopard print once again at Paris Fashion Week at the end of September. For the Dior show, she was almost completely covered in the leopard print.

A historic trend

For fashion connoisseurs, leopard print isn’t a new trend – in fact, its history in fashion is long and tumultuous. The pattern remains controversial: some appreciate it as classic and timeless, others consider it kitschy and tasteless.

Although print is currently experiencing a renaissance, it is anything but new. Its history goes back thousands of years, as some Egyptian gods and figures were depicted with the animal’s fur. A lot has happened since then and, especially in the 20th century, the trend has oscillated between extremes: sometimes a symbol of the elite, influenced by designers like Christian Dior, and sometimes a symbol of rebellion and party culture. Even in the 21st century, the pattern never completely disappeared from the scene, but it hasn’t been as popular as it is now for a long time.

How to style leopard prints in fall?

Hardly any other season offers as many fashion options as autumn. That’s exactly why it’s the perfect time of year to incorporate the timeless and resurrected trend into your wardrobe. Fall brings with it more layers and therefore a lot of opportunities to enhance a leopard print look. The brownish and golden tones of the print harmonize perfectly with the autumnal color palette of the trees.

If you don’t want to wear a striking and large leopard coat straight away, you can start small. It doesn’t take much to enhance an outfit with the trendy pattern and even a small accessory can make a big difference. A belt, for example, is the perfect way to discreetly incorporate the print into a look and at the same time make a small statement. A head covering can also make a big difference and looks very stylish in a leopard print. Bags in the animal pattern give every outfit that certain something.

With autumn comes cooler temperatures and some people are happy about a scarf or neckerchief. This accessory also offers a perfect stage for the leopard print. Hailey Bieber offers another subtle option: In her latest Instagram post, she wears glasses that are stained with the brown-gold spots.

On the other hand, the print can also be used as a fashion statement and can be worn over a larger area. Kate Moss and Hailey Bieber provide the perfect example, as the fall season just calls for a mantel. If you’re looking for a change from the neutral colors, you can definitely turn heads with a leopard coat.

Although it can get cold in autumn, sunny days can also be seen from time to time. A longer dress in a leopard look is the right choice here. Combined with simple boots and a coat, this look is definitely an eye-catcher. But the pattern can also add a special touch to autumn looks as a midi skirt. The influencer Emma Leger, among others, showed this at this year’s Fashion Week in Paris.

Short pants no longer have a place in an autumn wardrobe and long jeans are becoming part of everyday life again. In the long run it can get a bit boring, which is why you can find long trousers in leopard print in some brands. Combined with simpler colors, this piece of clothing can have a lot of impact.

Shoes are one of the most important parts of an outfit and in fall there are more options in this area than ever. Ballerina flats or more open shoes are suitable for the summer season, but can still be worn in autumn. Instead of simple and mostly black colors, you can vary the leopard print and incorporate warmer characteristics. The same applies to boots and sneakers, which are particularly popular in autumn.
