Coincidence? Fire TV Stick 4K (Max) has disappeared from Amazon.de’s offering

The popular streaming players Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K MAX have disappeared from Amazon’s range. Coincidence or the result of a court ruling?

The Amazon Prime Deal Days are currently running and if a product category is one of the main features of a sales campaign, then it is probably the in-house Amazon devices. In the selection we also find many special offers from the brands Echo, Blink, Ring, EERO, Kindle and Fire TV. What is noticeable, however, is that two current products are conspicuously absent from the ever-popular Fire TV streaming players: The Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd generation) and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd generation). These were actually at the forefront when it came to luring buyers with high discounts. We ask ourselves why Amazon has the products temporarily unavailable?

Popular Fire TV Stick 4K (Max) cannot be found

The normal Amazon Fire TV Stick, its light version and the Fire TV Cube (3rd generation) are actively advertised with discounts of up to 56 percent. The 4K versions of the Fire TV Sticks mentioned cannot currently be found via the search slot on Amazon.de or on the Prime Deal Days page. A search via Google will take you to the detailed pages of the hardware, but here you will see the text “Currently not available. One reason why the Fire TV Stick 4K (Max) is not offered is of course the recent ruling that emerged as a result of a legal dispute between Nokia and Amazon. This court case concerned, among other things, patents that Amazon had infringed, including the possibilities of cloud use for video streaming and the associated use of modern video codecs such as HEVC (h.265). The latter could also be the reason why these models are no longer offered if these devices used these technologies. If Nokia has deposited a security payment, the company can demand that sales of affected hardware be stopped.

Discounts on Fire TV 4K (Max) too small?

Another possibility is that Amazon has already sold off its account of the affected hardware in the past few weeks. Or because the devices may have been offered too cheaply in the past 30 days, Amazon decided not to sell them with a discount that was too small. Online retailers now have to state the cheapest price or average price of the last 30 days and are not allowed to switch between average price and RRP when making price comparisons. It was a common practice for online retailers to promote offers with a larger discount. In most cases, the prices were increased again shortly before the promotion.
