Different starts to the group phase for the Swiss representatives in the European League. The handball players from Kriens-Luzern win, the Cadets Schaffhausen lose.

Kriens-Luzern was never in danger at the start of the second highest European Cup against Ademar Leon. Central Switzerland never trailed throughout the game, never letting the fifth-place team in the Spanish championship get closer than two goals in the last 25 minutes and prevailing 34:30. The Croatian Marin Sipic shone for Kriens-Luzern with five goals.

The Cadets Schaffhausen, on the other hand, had to admit defeat to Benfica Lisbon by a narrow margin. The Swiss champions fell behind 6-1 early on against third-placed Portugal and were never in the lead. In the second half, the cadets fought back, but were unable to prevent the decisive goal to make it 25:26 in the final minute.
