FDLE investigates police-involved shooting in Hollywood following dispute between neighbors; Officer hospitalized in unknown condition – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

HOLLYWOOD, FL. (WSVN) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a police-involved shooting in Hollywood after an officer got into an argument with a person following several de-escalation attempts.

Hollywood police arrived on the 6600 block of Eaton Street just before 10 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a disturbance between neighbors.

When the officer tried to defuse the situation between the residents, things escalated and he got into an argument with one of the neighbors.

During the encounter, Hollywood police said the officer was forced to fire his weapon, but it was unclear how many shots were fired.

The officer involved was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His exact condition is unknown.

“At approximately 9:30 this morning, Hollywood Police received a call about a neighbor dispute at the intersection of North 66th Avenue and Eaton Street. Upon arrival, a Hollywood officer encountered a caller,” said a Hollywood Police PIO. “Shortly thereafter, a physical altercation occurred between the suspect and the uniformed police officer. At that point, the officer fired his firearm. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over this investigation, the use of force investigation. The officer sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”

Hollywood police have yet to confirm whether the person was hit.

7News cameras captured a man sitting in the back seat of a police car while he was being questioned by authorities.

It is not known whether any arrests were made.

FDLE has taken over the protocol investigation of officer-involved shootings.
