Police investigate shooting in the Bronx


Bronx, NY — Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at approximately 8:33 p.m., outside 1471 Taylor Avenue. According to reports, three unidentified individuals approached the location, displayed firearms, and fired multiple rounds before fleeing in a dark-colored SUV heading southbound on Taylor Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking any information that may help identify the suspects involved.

    Manhattan, NY - Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced that 31-year-old Jamel McIver has pleaded guilty to first-degree rape for the assault of a 21-year-old woman in her Upper West apartment building in March 2023 Side sexually assaulted. McIver has entered his guilty plea in the New York State Supreme Court and sentencing is scheduled for December 11, 2024.

    The assault occurred around 1:20 a.m. on March 4, 2023, when McIver followed the victim, a stranger, into her apartment building near West 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. He then threatened the woman, dragged her into a stairwell and raped her. McIver continued to threaten the victim throughout the attack, dragging her down several flights of stairs and eventually out of the building, where he made one final threat before releasing her. He fled the scene after removing his jacket and sweatshirt.

    District Attorney Bragg condemned the attack as a “horrific act of sexual violence” and reiterated his commitment to holding the perpetrators accountable to ensure the safety of all Manhattan residents.

    The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jonathan Carfagno and James Clarke under the supervision of senior members of the Special Victims Division and the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau. The Survivor Services Bureau, which includes Special Victims Advisor Nakeisha Vanterpool, is providing support to the victim.

  • Teen dies of injuries in Bronx shooting, now under murder investigation

    Bronx, NY — A 16-year-old boy, Kemari Sanders, has died as a result of a shooting in August, and the case is now being investigated as a homicide, the New York Police Department announced. Sanders, who lived on East 172 Street in the Bronx, died from his injuries on Friday, October 4, 2024.

    The shooting occurred on August 23, 2024 at approximately 12:40 p.m. near the corner of Bryant Avenue and Jennings Street. The victim was walking in the area when an unknown suspect fired a shot, striking Sanders in the neck. The shooter fled the scene northbound on Bryant Avenue.

    Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspect associated with the incident.
