Chrome alternative now supports Windows on ARM

The selection of software for the new ARM-compatible version of Windows 11 adds another important element. The Arc browser, an alternative to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, is now also available as an ARM version.

More choice for ARM users

With the introduction of Snapdragon-based PCs, which now offer significantly more performance than their predecessors with more powerful ARM chips of the Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite types, the new Microsoft and Qualcomm are of course also trying to expand the software offering. The successes are still limited, but things are now making a bit more progress, at least when it comes to browsers.

With the release of the latest version, the availability of the Arc Browser for ARM-based Windows PCs now begins, announced the development team from the so-called Browser Company. The download is also possible on ARM-based PCs as normal via the manufacturer’s website, where you have to select the button for the Windows version.

Older Windows PCs with ARM CPUs are supported

In addition to models with the new Snapdragon chips, the supported ARM systems also include PCs that have already been delivered with ARM CPUs in recent years. In addition to models like the Surface Pro 11 or the Surface Laptop 7, older devices such as the Surface Pro 9 5G or the Surface Pro X are also supported. In addition to Windows 11, the older Windows 10 is also supported.

The performance gains associated with the introduction of a native version running on ARM platforms should also be quite remarkable for the Arc browser if you have previously only used an x86 version operated via emulation. The Arc Browser is based on the current Chromium version, i.e. the open source project behind Chrome. However, Arc itself is not an open source product. The browser has only been available since summer 2023.

According to the description, Arc is intended to offer a personal user experience when accessing the Internet and to ensure that you avoid some clicks and distractions or an overload of information. If desired, the browser also offers its own AI assistant and uses an interface with a vertical tab bar. A user account is always required for use.
