Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj alleges fraud in DDA housing for poor, demands judicial probe

New Delhi: Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday alleged a poor housing scam and said the DDA housing units for slum dwellers in the city were being sold illegally to unauthorized people.

There was no immediate response from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the BJP to the allegations.

Bharadwaj alleged in a press conference that these DDA flats were being sold to ineligible people, undermining the very purpose of the initiative to help the poor.

The slum dwellers who were displaced by the central government’s policies were promised shelters and are now falling prey to corruption and this cannot be done without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, he claimed.

“These flats cannot be sacrificed to corruption without the consent of the central government’s DDA. Such a big fraud and corruption happened right under the nose of the BJP LG and it is not possible that Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena did not know about it,” he said.

Bharadwaj also accused the BJP of being anti-poor.

“The BJP is always worried about the poor and goes against them. When free electricity and water were given to the poor, the BJP was against it. Now these apartments that were intended for the poor are being given to other people in black,” he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader called for an independent probe into the matter and suggested that only a sitting judge of the Supreme Court or Supreme Court could ensure a transparent probe.

“If ACB or CBI conducts investigation, it is likely to be hushed up as these agencies report to the LG and central government. Therefore, this matter should be investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court or Supreme Court to ensure a transparent investigation,” Bharadwaj said.
