Detroit Tigers get mixed results in injury updates ahead of Game 5

The Detroit Tigers’ season is on the line in Game 5.

It’s a simple scenario that hasn’t happened with this franchise in a decade; Win and advance, or lose and watch someone else lift the World Series trophy.

Just a few months ago, very few people thought they would find themselves in this situation.

Left well behind in the Wild Card race, causing the front office to become sellers at the trade deadline, the Tigers’ commitment to a youth movement sparked a huge turnaround that propelled them into the playoffs as the hottest team in the American League .

But this magical run could end in defeat on Saturday.

The good news is that Detroit will have their star Tarik Skubal, who has performed historically well in his first two career playoff starts.

The worrying news is that they go into this contest a bit of a mess.

Catcher Jake Rogers took some foul balls off his wrist, which led to him needing X-rays after Game 4 to determine if there was anything structurally wrong. Fortunately, the Tigers received a positive injury update on that front and he should be ready to play despite the bumps and bruises.

However, when it comes to their star outfielder Kerry Carpenter, they could be in a little more trouble.

The slugger left the game after the sixth inning when he tore his Achilles tendon and scored a run from second base that gave Detroit a 3-2 lead on Thursday.

There was no new information on Friday and at the time of writing they are still considering whether the injury is serious enough that they will need to replace him in the squad with Bligh Madris in the event that this ultimately happens , the decision was made to be included in their taxi squad.

“Kerry was examined by the doctors last night. He is being examined again by the doctors. “We’re going to take as much time as we can to see what he can and can’t do,” manager AJ Hinch said, according to the team’s injuries and moves page.

If they cut Carpenter from the roster, he would be ineligible to play in the American League Championship Series if they could win Game 5 and advance.
