Massive hacker attack at Game Freak reveals new generation of Pokémon, information about Switch 2 and more

Developer Game Freak has fallen victim to a hacker attack.

Developer Game Freak has fallen victim to a hacker attack.

After Insomniac Games and Rockstar, among others, were recently affected by hacking attacks combined with massive data leaks, Pokémon developer Game Freak may have lost thousands of internal and top secret data through a phishing attack via a Nintendo admin account made public.

How GamePro deals with illegal hacking attacks:

The situation surrounding Game Freak cannot be compared to normal leaks. If it is usually about insiders passing on information, this is a criminal offense. Although the situation is currently not fully clear, it is possible that in addition to gameplay assets and release plans, private, sometimes financial information of Game Freak employees may also be affected.

GamePro will provide coverage of the hacker attack, but will not show gameplay scenes or link to the leaked files. The stolen data is now public and will not disappear if we ignore the issue. We see it as our journalistic duty to process and classify the published information as well as its illegal procurement and possible consequences for you.

The most important information from the Game Freak leak

Below we give you a rough overview of the most important information that became public as a result of the hacking attack on Game Freak:

  • Die 10th Pokémon generation (Codename: Gaia) will consist of two versions, K and N, and for both the Nintendo Switch and the “Switch 2”.
  • A Multiplayer Pokemon (Codename: Synapse) is said to be in development at Game Freak and developer ILCA and is reminiscent of a Splatoon-like game
  • Pokémon Legends: ZA, the spin-off that will be released in 2025, should already be in a completely playable state
  • Die Source codes for the DS-Abelger Pokémon Black and White 2, HeartGold and SoulSilver were released
  • Die”Nintendo Switch 2According to the leak, it will be codenamed Ounce internally

The extent of the Game Freak leak: It is now estimated that over 1 terabyte of internal data has been placed on the Internet. In addition to future plans from developer Game Freak, codenames and source codes, thousands of images with Pokémon concept art and previous versions of the games were also released.

It is still unclear whether employees’ private information is also affected. The motive for the hacking attack is still unclear.
