New building: In the “Seamless” salon you can learn sewing and screen printing

In the Seamless sewing salon you can learn to sew clothes or print bags with your own motifs. If you have any questions, operator Andreas Einsiedler is always available. He also sells his own art here.

VIENNA/NEW BUILDING. Whether pottery, glueing or sewing – hobbies in which you create new things from scratch with your own hands are becoming increasingly popular. Courses in which you learn these are therefore in high demand. This also applies to Andreas Einsiedler’s sewing salon Seamless.

At Kellermanngasse 4 he not only offers an open workshop for sewing and screen printing. He also teaches beginners both crafts. “I have always been a technically interested person,” says Einsiedler. He completed his training as an electronics engineer at the HTL before studying musicology. “I learned about screen printing during a semester abroad and that inspired me. I decided I wanted to do that too and started learning,” he continues.

Basic course to professional technology

Around 13 years ago, a hermit opened the sewing salon, where he passed on the knowledge he had acquired in basic courses. “It was well received,” he remembers. “I’m fundamentally interested in different sewing and screen printing techniques and want to understand why something works or doesn’t. That’s why I’m pretty good at explaining the basics to people and helping them with problems,” says the expert.

If you already know what you’re doing, you can rent a sewing machine and work on your own pieces. But complete beginners are also welcome. His course participants are encouraged to repair things instead of simply throwing them away. “Sustainability is important to me. “Now I don’t buy anything that can’t be repaired,” he reveals. “That’s why I have old sewing machines. Their basic material is so good that they are easy to maintain.”

Repair instead of throwing away

The workshop also serves as a place for Einsiedler to pursue his art. “When I have time, I mainly do digital illustrations with the tablet. For a while I also dabbled in analogue and black-and-white photography,” he says. Even though he finds pleasure in all of his artistic pursuits, “it’s when they’re combined that they’re the most fun.”

Einsiedler now also sells his prints, which mainly consist of images or textiles. “I have a few local customers for whom I collectively print t-shirts, sweaters or bags. But I also sell them in my shop or on the homepage,” says the artist.
