Until he finally retires from the Davis Cup, it will certainly be the Rafael Nadal festival on (social) media. Now a former companion of Nadal has also commented: his compatriot Nicolas Almagro.

Almagro: No chance against “Rafa” from the start

In a detailed interview with the sports newspaper “Marca”*, Almagro paid tribute to Rafa and made a very martial comparison: “It was like going to the slaughterhouse or going to your garden to steal your fruits.” It was not an unpleasant feeling , because you’re playing in the biggest tournament a clay court lover can play, but when you only have a few chances at the start of the game, you realize you don’t have any.”

For Nicolas Almagro, who had to end his career in April 2019 due to recurring knee problems, added: “It is something that we who played against him will remember and tell our children and grandchildren.” He has created a legend through hard work, sacrifice and values. This is something that should be taught in schools. “That’s why it was so hard to beat him when we played him,” Almagro said.
