The result has since been heavily contested, with “disgusting” organizer Eddie Hearn describing the judges’ results sheets as an “absolute joke”.

One judge scored the contest a draw 114-114, while the other two scored 115-113 and 116-112 in Beterbiev’s favor.

However, punch statistics compiled by CompuBox show how close many of the rounds were.

In eight of the twelve rounds, the two were separated by four or fewer punches landed.

While Beterbiev fired far more shots, Bivol was more precise over the course of the 12 rounds.

Beterbiev landed 137 of 682 punches thrown with an accuracy of 20 percent.

Bivol, meanwhile, landed 141 of 417 attempted shots, for a hit rate of 34 percent.

One of the critics of the final result was Saudi Supreme Turki Alalshikh.

After the fight, he vowed to stage a rematch, telling DAZN: “That was, in my opinion, one of the greatest fights of the last 20 years, but I don’t think the result was fair in my opinion.”

“The two fighters are like my brothers, but I think Bivol won two more rounds. I will concentrate and try to get through the rematch.”

“If they accept, we will.”

Even Queensberry promoter Frank Warren agreed with his Matchroom rival Hearn that the scorecards were wrong.

He said: “I won Bivol by a few laps. The result of 8:4 is beyond ridiculous. Everyone in the ring thought Bivol won it by at least two rounds.”

“There should be a rematch because it was such a quality fight. Brilliant skills from Bivol, his jab was great. Artur was told in the last few laps that it had to either sink or swim.”

“The result of 8:4 was a joke. It’s terrible when there’s a fight like that and it ends in controversy.”
