Grand Seiko SLGW003 “Birch Bark” – inspired by Japan’s nature

A special highlight of the SLGW003 is the movement itself, which can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal back. The Caliber 9SA4, a mechanical hand-wound Hi-Beat 36,000, not only offers exceptional accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day, but also an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.

The ritual of manually winding a watch has been one of the more relaxing things in life for centuries. That’s why Grand Seiko always attaches great importance to the tactile and acoustic sensations when winding. The SLGW003 also has a visual finesse in the movement: the shape of the pawl of the ratchet wheel is reminiscent of a small, pecking wagtail – wonderful to observe through the sapphire crystal back of the watch. Here too, nature provided the inspiration; the birds are native to the meadows surrounding the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
