VIDEO: Police rescue family and pets after tree falls on Florida home in Milton

BRADENTON, Fla. During Hurricane Milton’s intense storms and rainfall across Florida, first responders conducted hundreds of rescues, including a family trapped in their home when a huge tree crashed through the living room.

Hurricane Milton made landfall on October 9 as a Category 3 storm with winds of 125 miles per hour, causing extensive damage in the Tampa Bay-Sarasota region as the storm’s strong winds downed trees and power lines. Bradenton, north of Sarasota, was among the communities affected by flooding and wind damage.

Bradenton Police shared the video above, which shows a home with major structural damage after a large tree crashed through the middle of the home.

The family called 911 when Milton made landfall overnight, but because of strong winds, first responders had to wait to rescue the family.

“As soon as the vehicles were able to get onto the road, BPD SWAT and Crime Reduction teams responded and evacuated the family,” police said.

The video shows police officers with chainsaws ready to free the family.

According to police, all four family members and two dogs were taken to a local animal shelter.
