He then became coach of the Nigeria national football team in September 2012, from which he resigned in October 2014 due to poor results.9 10 On February 24, 2015, he was appointed coach of Burkina Faso.11 He resigned in December 2015.12

Benin qualified for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, the first ever AFCON. However, they lost all three games against South Africa, Morocco and Nigeria. Benin’s only goal was scored by Moussa Latoundji against Nigeria.

At the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Benin, reunited with Dussuyer despite only progressing as the third-best third-placed team, reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to Senegal, with a surprise victory over Morocco.
