India Canada News LIVE Updates: Tensions between India and Canada escalated on Monday after the Foreign Ministry strongly rejected the “diplomatic communication” it received from Canada last week. The announcement was related to the investigation into the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.

India has withdrawn its high commissioner to Canada and Canadian police have revealed details of the alleged link between Indian government “agents” and the assassination of Khalistani leader Nijjar.

The Canadian Police Force (RCMP) also released a statement on October 14 on “violent criminal activity in Canada linked to Indian government agents” and addressed four key issues: “Violent extremism affecting both countries (India and Canada); links the tying up of agents of the Government of India (GOI) to the use of organized crime to create the impression of an unsafe environment targeting the South Asian community in Canada and interference in democratic processes;

According to the MEA, Canada’s “diplomatic communications” indicated “that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are ‘persons of interest’ in a matter relating to an investigation in that country.” It added: “The Government of India strongly rejects these absurd insinuations and attributes them to the Trudeau government’s policy agenda focused on vote bank politics.”

The MEA then summoned Canadian Charge d’Affaires Stewart Wheeler that evening and told him “that the unfounded attack against the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada was completely unacceptable.” India said the government had decided to withdraw the high commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials.
