Virginia Football Bowl predictions for Week 8

Virginia Football Bowl predictions for Week 8

Even though they suffered a setback last weekend with a 24-20 loss to Louisville, the Virginia Cavaliers are still off to a much better start than many expected. Their 4-2 overall record and 2-1 record in ACC play far exceed expectations set by their projection to finish 16th (out of 17 teams) in the ACC preseason poll.

Unfortunately for the Hoos, the loss to Louisville could have another negative impact as their remaining schedule is one of the toughest in college football. Four of UVA’s last six games are against opponents currently ranked in the AP Top 25, and three of those four games are on the road. Virginia’s remaining schedule strength is ranked 19th in the country and is the second-most difficult remaining schedule in the ACC, behind only Georgia Tech, which plays Notre Dame, Miami and Georgia in its last five games.

However, with the Cavaliers only needing two wins to achieve bowl eligibility, many college football media outlets are still predicting that Virginia will host a bowl game for the first time since 2021 and play in a bowl game for the first time since 2019. will take part in the game.

Let’s see what bowl games the Virginia Cavaliers will play in Week 8 according to various college football media outlets.

Patrick Andres of Sports Illustrated has Virginia traveling to the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas on New Year’s Eve and taking on Oregon State on Tuesday, December 31st.

In both of ESPN’s predictions for this week, the Hoos are still bowling. Kyle Bonagura has predicted that the Cavaliers will face Texas State in the Camellia Bowl at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, December 14th.

Mark Schlabach has Virginia heading to the Go Bowling Military Bowl on Saturday, December 28, in a true road game against Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.

USA TODAY’s Erick Smith also predicts UVA will advance to the Military Bowl on Dec. 28, but his bowl predictions have the Cavaliers facing Memphis this week.

The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy has Virginia at the same level as last week, facing Illinois in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday, January 3rd.

Finally, Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon predicts that Virginia will face another Big Ten opponent in Michigan State on Friday, December 27, in the Birmingham Bowl at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.

CBS Sports still doesn’t expect Virginia to host a bowl game, which isn’t particularly surprising given that CBS didn’t have the Cavaliers scheduled for a bowl game last week before the Louisville game.

ESPN’s College Football Power Index (FPI) essentially gives Virginia a coin-flip chance (49.3%) of reaching the required six-win threshold to achieve bowl eligibility. UVA is expected to be the favorite in just one game moving forward – Week 9 against North Carolina at home.

ESPN’s matchup prediction gives Virginia the following:
– 11.0% chance of beating Clemson
– 53.1% chance of beating North Carolina
– 30.7% chance of beating Pittsburgh
– 6.9% chance of beating Notre Dame
– 27.0% chance of defeating SMU
– 26.9% chance of beating Virginia Tech

Virginia will begin the second half of its schedule with a top-10 road matchup at No. 10 Clemson begins Saturday at noon on the ACC Network.
