Pokémon developer Game Freak reportedly suffered a massive data breach that resulted in the disclosure of key information and game code names.

Game Freak, the renowned developer of the Pokémon video game series, has experienced a major data breach dubbed “Teraleak.” This breach resulted in the disclosure of extensive employee data and information about upcoming projects. Recent reports suggest that a large amount of data purportedly coming from Game Freak studios has been made publicly available. While details about the hacking incident and the perpetrators are yet to be revealed, fans are now scouring the leaked information for new insights into the future of Pokemon, including details about upcoming films.

According to ComicBook, Pokemon is looking for ideas for its 24th film, codenamed Farmer. Production on the film originally began in 2021, with no developments to date. It should fall; However, the release has been postponed indefinitely. According to the latest leak, fans got their hands on a rough synopsis of the Pokémon movie, which is said to be “darker.” The film is set in modern Kanto and features Mew as the main mythical creature. It would tell the story of Light and Akari as they overcome the challenges of adolescence, including cyberbullying and suicidal thoughts.

The basic idea was to reboot the Pokémon universe to regain fans’ attention with a darker note. This also suggests an intense storyline compared to the first film, Pokemon: The First Movie. However, since there is no clear path yet, all bets regarding the film are off.

Other Pokemon leaks

In another major revelation from the leak, it appears as though Pokemon Legends ZA is targeting a 2025 release after its original 2024 window was delayed. There have been several mentions of Generation 10 games codenamed Gaia, K, and N for different versions. On the other hand, Nintendo’s Switch 2 was codenamed Ounce, followed by an unannounced spin-off of the game codenamed Synapse.

Although official announcements about these films and games are still pending, Game Freak has apologized for the leaks, saying: “Game Freak Inc. has discovered that personal information of employees and others was leaked in connection with unauthorized access to our server by a third party August 2024. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to all involved,” CBR quoted.
