Will schools schedule make-up days for missed instructional time due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton?

Treasure Coast school districts returned to business as usual Monday after being closed for nearly a week due to Hurricane Milton. Does this mean that some vacation days will be shortened, some planned days off will be eliminated until the end of the year, or that some make-up days will be postponed until the end of the year? Some districts are already considering make-up days for time missed in recent weeks.

Indian River School District

School district officials plan to post an announcement about makeup days on social media Monday evening.

The district canceled one day of classes due to Hurricane Helene and four days of classes due to Hurricane Milton.

Martin County School District

Martin County schools are working with the state Department of Education to determine makeup day needs. Officials want to ensure the district’s instructional calendar meets state requirements for instructional protocols, spokeswoman Jennifer DeShazo said in a statement.

Staff and families will be informed this week, she said.

St. Lucie County School District

The district did not respond to inquiries about makeup days.
