As a specialist in high-quality materials and a fan of Art Deco design, UK-based statement furniture designer Kayleigh Andrews was immediately drawn to Newmor’s Savoy Starburst pattern, knowing it would add that special wow factor to a 20th-century walnut cocktail would lend to the cabinet she was currently remodeling.

With a keen eye for creating statement furniture, it’s easy to see why Andrews was initially drawn to the look of Starbust wallpaper, but it was Newmor’s exemplary quality that really blew the artist away.

“Her commitment to craftsmanship was evident from the beginning,” Andrews said of Newmor. “They were incredibly accommodating, customizing the wallpaper to my exact measurements and providing digital corrections for my review.”

Although it was clearly a labor of love, the result of Andrews’ efforts was a product that exceeded all of her expectations: “The metallic gold finish is truly stunning, and the quality and thickness of the wallpaper is second to none.”

The incredible quality of the paper even made Andrews question whether the wallpaper brand uses a special coating for its designs. “I have never experienced such durable wallpaper. Normally I have to apply multiple coats of varnish, but with the Newmor Savoy Starbust design I didn’t feel the need to use any varnish,” she added.

However, David Johnson, managing director of Newmor, was happy to clarify the origin of the paper’s durability: “Starburst is printed on our Mylar base; It is one of our most robust bases and any of our digital designs can be printed on it.

“Our standard vinyl backings are also incredibly durable as our wall coverings are primarily supplied for commercial interiors, hotels, bars, restaurants etc.”

Both Andrews and the Newmor brand, both champions of local products and designers, were equally excited to learn about each other’s British heritage. Designer after designer and creator of the Savoy Starbust pattern Jess Broxton couldn’t have been happier to have her artwork incorporated into a Kookiwood design.

“I was excited to see my Starburst artwork used in a different medium and in such a unique way. My Starburst was the first piece of art I created while working on my first bespoke collection when I started at Newmor straight out of college. When I saw the cabinet on social media I was just as excited as I was when I realized it had been chosen for our range six years ago!”

And it seems fate really did introduce Andrews to Starburst printing, as Broxton describes how the paper design was inspired by the Roaring ’20s and is now displayed on a vintage drinks cabinet, exactly where she imagined it has. “It pairs perfectly with walnut,” Broxton added, “Kayleigh has created a truly beautiful piece.”
