Death in Highland Park raises questions after an unknown man was found in an abandoned home

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich – An unknown man was found in an abandoned home in Highland Park.

The man was found on Tuesday, October 15, at 4:45 p.m. in the 342 block of Geneva Avenue.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said the Highland Park Police Department contacted the MSP Second District Special Investigations Division about the man found in the abandoned home that was once engulfed in flames.

Shaw said the unidentified man was found dead in the basement of the home.

“We are in the process of walking through the neighborhood, checking the Ring cameras and looking for witnesses,” Shaw said. “We also have a fingerprint scanner out with some of our crime scene technicians to try and identify this man.”

MSP said they were not sure what was happening at the time of the man’s death. Shaw said the incident could be murder, an overdose, or something to do with the weather or natural death.

“Since we don’t have any witnesses on scene, we’re obviously treating this as a murder,” Shaw said. “There are some things in the basement that make this scene look like murder or foul play involved.”

Investigators said they have completed their investigation and investigation at the scene and are awaiting the autopsy report.

The man remains unknown and a cause of death has not been determined.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the MSP Tip Line at 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
