A man with a police badge is accused of shooting a woman during a violent incident on Kendall Drive

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida. — Miami-Dade police have arrested a man who shot and killed a 61-year-old woman in a traffic accident in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Authorities said 29-year-old Javiel Polo was driving a motorcycle and the victim was traveling east in a black Dodge van when there was a crash near Kendall Drive and Southwest 137th Avenue just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday An argument came.

Police said Polo approached the victim’s vehicle, pulled out a gun, pointed it at the woman and then briefly holstered it. According to an arrest report, both got out of their vehicles and the argument continued.

Police said the argument turned violent when Polo fired a single shot, striking the woman in the upper right leg.

Sky 10 was over the scene when Polo was taken into custody.

Investigators confirmed a gun was found in his waistband and a spent shell casing was recovered from the roadway. Police also reported that a nearby vehicle was struck by gunfire during the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed the victim was unarmed, a detail corroborated by video evidence, authorities said.

Police told Local 10’s Christian De La Rosa that the woman was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition.

Police said Polo was later taken to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Hammocks District Station, where he invoked his right to remain silent.

Jail records show he is charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was pending.
