Here’s a WNBA Finals story via the Associated Press:

NEW YORK (AP) — Betnijah Laney-Hamilton has been fighting back since returning from right knee surgery over the past six weeks.

The Liberty guard looked like her pre-surgery self on Sunday, scoring 20 points in New York’s 80-66 win over Minnesota that tied the WNBA Finals series at 1-1.

“I think everyone has seen them. She’s been struggling, but she’s been fine the last few days, I can tell you that,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. “We just knew it would take a while. We gave her so much peace here and she was ready to go. She puts a lot of work into it. Like I said, she’s tough. We talked about the toughness it gives us.”

Laney-Hamilton, who underwent knee surgery on July 16 and returned to the lineup on August 26, said she felt good after her first drive of the game. The former Rutgers star said she did “a little bit of everything” to get her knee back in order.

“I think it gives me a little momentum going into the series,” said Laney-Hamilton, who had five points in the opening loss. “I struggled physically and mentally while I was going through everything. … Finally start feeling good and capitalizing on it.”

Laney-Hamilton, who had her college coach C. Vivian Stringer with her, brings so much to New York when she’s healthy.

“I think we missed her courage and she is just the ultimate competitor. She’s proud – she used to always protect the best player, and now of course we have Leo too, which makes us a really well-rounded defensive team. But you also miss their joy of playing,” said Brondello. “We talked about that this year. We wanted to make sure she could make more plays, and it was difficult for her to make plays with her knee hobbling back and forth. We need them to gain confidence first and then go out and play.”

When Minnesota got within 68-66 with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter, Laney-Hamilton started the game-winning 12-0 run with a 3-pointer in the corner that gave New York a cushion that it didn’t wanted to give more.

“She’s just impressive because she plays on both ends of the floor and plays hard and she’s a winner,” Brondello said. “I’m so happy that she had the success she had tonight and I’m continuing to build on it.”

Laney-Hamilton also had the opportunity to meet Jennifer Hudson after the game. The singer wanted a chance to get in touch with her. The two chatted for a few minutes after the win.
