Santa Monica College employee dies after colleague is shot – NBC Los Angeles

The longtime Santa Monica College employee who was shot by a colleague on campus earlier this week has died, the Santa Monica Police Department said.

Felicia Hudson, 54, was shot on Monday by a colleague on one of the university’s outdoor campuses, the Center for Media & Design. She died from her injuries on Wednesday, police said.

The shooting occurred around 9:50 p.m. when Davon Durrell Dean, 39, shot her for reasons still under investigation. Dean was identified as an administrator at the college.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of our colleague Felicia Hudson, who served the College with dedication and heart for nearly three decades. “She took great pride in being a steadfast colleague and leader,” said College President Dr. Kathryn E. Jeffery said in a statement.

Dean died Tuesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading police on a short chase that led to a standoff in El Segundo.

In honor of Hudson, the Santa Monica College Foundation, in collaboration with her family, established a legacy fund.

All Santa Monica College campuses were closed Tuesday following the shooting.
