The Slidell man charged with video voyeurism is facing a third charge

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – New details in a voyeurism case that crosses state borders. Evidence is mounting in a new lawsuit against the Slidell man accused of planting hidden cameras in his Orange Beach home and condo.

Jonathan Bethancourt is charged with 19 counts of video voyeurism. Bethancourt was arrested on the first 11 counts on May 29, a week after his former nanny – Alyssa Glavan – went to Slidell police – after making a disturbing discovery at Bethancourt’s home where she worked.

The civil lawsuit, filed in late August, caused a container of cotton swabs to be overturned in the bathroom, according to Glavan. As she bent down to pick it up, she noticed what appeared to be a digital camera disguised as a smoke detector mounted about 10 inches above the wall in front of the toilet.

“I thought, this can’t be real, and when I saw the SD card I thought, Oh my God. There was also a QR code on the back that I scanned that told me how to set up your I-Spy camera. That’s when it really hit me and I started freaking out and my heart was beating really fast,” Glavan told FOX 10 News shortly after Bethancourt’s arrest.

Investigators say multiple cameras were discovered at Slidell’s home and an Orange Beach condo. Glavan said she had only worked for Bethancourt for six months. Other defendants named in this latest lawsuit include Bethancourt’s A/C and Heating, which was forced to vacate his home, and his wife, Lauren Bethancourt.

In the lawsuit, Glavan alleges public embarrassment and mental anguish from not only being recorded, but also the possibility that the images were shared. She is demanding, among other things, compensation for pain and suffering.

Meanwhile, Bethancourt remains free on bail after being rearrested on July 1 and charged with an additional eight counts of video voyeurism.

After that second arrest, two additional lawsuits were filed by alleged victims — one of them a minor, according to the lawsuit filed by her parents. The other was filed by a woman who was employed by Bethancourt from May 2020 until this year, including as a nanny for his first child and filing paperwork for his company.

The lawsuit also mentions beach trips to two separate Orange Beach condominiums owned or rented by Bethancourt.

FOX 10 News has reached out to the Orange Beach Police Department to see if any charges have been filed in their jurisdiction. They said Slidell police would not release any information to them until their investigation was complete.
