Study shows increasing trend: More than every second company relies on AI

A study shows the use of artificial intelligence in the German economy. Read here why more and more companies are using AI.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the German economy is constantly increasing. As the digital association Bitkom announced, 57 percent of companies with at least 20 employees are now working with AI, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous year.

This data comes from a survey by Bitkom in which 602 companies took part. A year ago, the proportion of companies interested in AI was 43 percent. In addition, 20 percent of companies stated that they were already actively using AI, an increase of five percentage points compared to the previous year. In 2022 it was only nine percent of the companies surveyed.

According to the survey, around 78 percent of the companies surveyed see AI applications primarily as opportunities, which represents an increase of ten percentage points compared to the previous year. Only twelve percent of companies see AI as a risk, while eight percent do not expect it to have any impact on their business.

37 percent of companies are currently investing in AI technologies, and 74 percent are planning corresponding investments in the next few years. This shows the growing trust in the possibilities and potential of artificial intelligence.

The positive attitude towards AI can be observed not only in the economy, but also in the population. According to another representative survey in which 1,007 people aged 16 and over took part, 74 percent of those surveyed see AI as an opportunity. Only 24 percent rate AI as a risk. These results were presented by Bitkom in the run-up to the Federal Government’s Digital Summit, which took place on October 21st and 22nd.
