Lorain police hold a press conference to provide an update on the police shooting

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Lorain Police have scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. Thursday to report a police-involved shooting that occurred on October 7, 2024.

Lorain Police Chief Jim McCann will provide a brief overview of the incident as the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Elyria Police Department

On Oct. 7, police reported that a resident called police at 12:05 a.m. after seeing a man break into a vehicle in the 1300 block of W. 17th St.

The caller assumed the man was holding a gun.

When officers arrived, they said they made contact with the suspect in the driveway, but the suspect fled on foot between the houses.

Lorain Police Lt. Morris said officers saw a gun on the suspect and after a short foot chase, an officer fired several shots, striking the suspect.

Officers immediately began first aid until Lifecare EMS transported him to Mercy Hospital of Lorain.

The suspect was treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

No officers were injured.

Lorain police contacted Elyria police to investigate.
