50 years of Ikea: The Kallax shelf is now available in a new trendy color

Whether white, black or light brown, matt or glossy: the Kallax shelf from Ikea is one of the best-known and most popular pieces of furniture from the Swedish furniture giant. No wonder, because it is practical, affordable and fits into any home thanks to its minimalist design. Now the shelf has gotten a colorful update.

For its 50th birthday: Ikea releases new Kallax shelves

For Ikea’s 50th birthday, the iconic 77 x 77 cm shelf shines in a completely new color: light orange. The delicate pastel tone is strongly reminiscent of “Peach Fuzz”, the Pantone color of the year 2024. What’s special about it: The exclusive special edition is only available in Germany and in no other country.

Even if the trend color is considered colorful as the old one, it is still relatively neutral and can be combined excellently with other colorful decorative elements as well as with monochrome furnishings in beige and cream tones. With candles, vases, etc. in other pastel colors, the Kallax shelf looks particularly playful and feminine, but with a white or gray wall and selected pieces in black or white, it looks reserved and elegant.

But don’t worry: the color is different, but the dimensions have remained the same, so baskets and other inserts still fit into the individual compartments. Practical: The shelf can be placed on the floor or hung on the wall as usual.

Other furniture is also available in the special edition

For the milestone birthday, Ikea not only gave the Kallax shelf a little makeover, but also other customer favorites from the last five decades. For example, the delicate Gladom side table is now available in a strong brown-orange and the large Strandmon wing chair in brown-red or pale blue.

Textiles such as bed linen or pillowcases now have a striped color-blocking look and can therefore also act as a color accent in the bedroom or living room.

Prices for the Limited Collection range from 2 euros (for a planter) to 279 euros (for a two-seater sofa). This means they are no more expensive than the “normal” collections from Ikea. Practical: Many of the limited-edition furniture and accessories can be easily combined with each other, as most of the pieces are available in light orange or brown-red. But they can also fit into the existing furnishings as individual eye-catchers.
