Age of Empires 2: New DLC announced, starts a new saga and does a lot of things differently

Who would have thought back then that we would still get new expansions for Microsoft’s real-time strategy game Age of Empires 2 in 2024?

Admittedly, we’re talking about the Definitive Edition here, but nonetheless it continues there on November 14, 2024 with Chronicles: Battle for Greece.

Age of Empires 2: This is what the new Greece DLC has to offer

Chronicles is designed as a multi-part saga and is intended to expand the game with a narrative experience and the core gameplay with “new innovative mechanics”.

There are three new, ancient civilizations: the Athenians, Spartans and Achaemenids, but they are not available in ranked games.

“In this first chapter of a multi-part saga, you will immerse yourself in a campaign spanning several centuries,” it says. “Experience the tumult of Persia during the Ionian Revolt, prepare the defense of Greece during the Persian Wars, witness the birth of democracy in the Golden Age of Athens, and face the devastating odds of the Peloponnesian War.”

There are a ton of new models including 55 new land units, 19 naval units and 85 buildings. The sea battles have been revised and offer six new ship types, such as ramming and catapult ships.

You’ll continue to have new ways to gather resources and trade on the high seas, while there are unique civilization mechanics like customizable village centers and government edicts. When it comes to technologies, you have either/or choices and you can customize commanders, giving bonuses to nearby units.

As far as the campaign is concerned, you can expect 21 scenarios as well as animated cutscenes, new music and new voice actors. Here you will experience, among other things, the Battle of Marathon, the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Salamis. She meets historical figures such as Themistocles, Pericles and Lysander.

As I said, Chronicles: Battle for Greece will be released on November 14, 2024. The price is normally 14.99 euros. By pre-ordering you can save 15 percent and then only pay 12.74 euros.
