Freeze Warning for Eastern Curry County, Josephine County and Jackson County on Friday

Freeze Warning for Eastern Curry County, Josephine County and Jackson County on Friday

At 10:41 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a freeze warning effective for Eastern Curry County and Josephine County, as well as Jackson County, between midnight and 9 a.m. Friday.

The weather service comments: “Freezing temperatures will reach 30 degrees in the Oregon valleys and up to 25 degrees in the California valleys.”

“Frost and freeze could destroy crops and other sensitive vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the weather service explains. “Take steps now to protect sensitive plants from the cold. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap them, drain them, or drain them slowly.”

What to do if there is a frost monitoring or warning?

Frost warnings are issued from May to October (but can be extended if necessary) when minimum temperatures of 29 to 32 degrees are expected. If there is a chance of temperatures falling below these limits, a frost warning may be issued a few days in advance.

If a freeze warning or warning is issued for your area, there is little you can do to protect plants, according to the weather service. If you can move your delicate plants inside, do so as the frost will likely kill them, depending on the severity of the conditions.
