Doubts are being raised about the mental capacity of the accused murderer of the beloved Bishop of Los Angeles

Doubts were raised Thursday about the mental capacity of the man accused of shooting Los Angeles Catholic Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell at his Hacienda Heights home last year.

Carlos Medina’s lawyer, Pedro Cortes, raised concerns about his client’s mental capacity on the day a hearing was scheduled to begin to determine whether there was enough evidence to take the case to trial.

The now 64-year-old defendant’s case is due back in court on October 31 at the Hollywood Courthouse, where a mental capacity evaluation is expected.
