Man charged with arson of Mayfield utility building and theft of truck

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) – A Mayfield man is charged in connection with an arson and burglary investigation at Mayfield Water & Electric.

Hunter Mitchum, 26, was arrested on Wednesday, October 16 and charged with second-degree arson, two counts of theft by unlawful taking of (car) over $10,000, first-degree criminal mischief and twelve counts of fraudulent use of one Credit card charged.

He is being held at the McCracken County Regional Jail.

According to Mayfield police, their investigation led to an intentionally set fire at the MEWS building on Farthing Street, the theft of a returned bucket truck and the theft of another truck on Oct. 7 in Mitchum.

Items from the building and truck were also reported stolen.

According to police, investigators tracked Mitchum to a home on Taylor Drive, where they searched the home and found items stolen from the break-in.

According to investigators, Mitchum confessed during an interview to breaking into the MEWS building and setting it on fire.

Police said their investigation was ongoing.
