MotoGP is coming up, but is she also driving?

The premier class should actually move out next. But we currently have to question whether the MotoGP pilots will actually drive under these conditions. The first free training session lasting 45 minutes begins at 1:45 a.m.

GOAL: Time is up

In the pouring rain, only Alex Escrig and Ayumu Sasaki were left outside at the end. Logically, Aron Canet’s best time remains ahead of surprise man Mario Aji. Alonso Lopez comes third ahead of Tony Arbolino. After a slow start, Ai Ogura ends up fifth and is only about 3 tenths behind the leader.

Just a few brave people

Due to the heavy rain, a large part of the field is in the pits. Only a few more rides, but much slower than before. Ai Ogura has already made it clear that it was. Let’s see what happens next. MotoGP will probably hardly run under these conditions.

Pirelli test fails

There are just under 10 minutes left on the clock and we can now definitely say that Pirelli will not be able to test the new slicks. It started raining harder again. The first victim is Alonso Lopez, who highsides in turn 4. This means that Aron Canet’s best time should be set in stone. It doesn’t get any faster here.

Mario Aji surprised

Canet, Lopez, Arbolino and now Ai Ogura in 5th place. At the front we see familiar names. Except for one. Mario Aji surprises with a strong performance on the wet slopes. The Indonesian placed second, only 41 thousandths behind Aron Canet. To be fair, it must be mentioned that the times of Canet and fourth-placed Arbolino are much older than those of the other pilots at the front.

Ogura improved

Ai Ogura is slowly getting going. He has now moved up to 8th place. Theoretically he can win the title this weekend. To do this, he would have to increase his points lead from 60 to 76 points. It is also rather unlikely that the Japanese will be allowed to celebrate in Australia.

Pain in Dixon

We didn’t see what happened to him, but Jake Dixon had to be supported by the Aspar box as he dismounted from his Kalex. The Brit is visibly in severe pain. At the front there is a private duel between Canet and Arbolino. The Spaniard is currently ahead. None of the other pilots can keep up.

Fall of Garcia

Things won’t continue with Sergio Garcia. The World Championship runner-up crashes in turn 4 and his Boscoscuro throws him off. However, teammate and World Championship leader Ai Ogura is not getting up to speed either and is only in 22nd place. Aron Canet has now taken the lead at the front, and clearly. He is seven tenths ahead of Arbolino.

Tony Arbolino shows his class in the rain

Whenever it’s wet, Tony Arbolino is a force to be reckoned with. Last year he won the rain race here on Phillip Island. In the first few laps he once again drives away the competition. Things are going much worse for compatriot Celetino Vietti. He causes the first crash in turn 4.

GREEN: Moto2 moves out

The Moto2 pilots start their extended training, of course on rain tires. The rain has now become a part of it, but there is still a long way to go before the track dries out.

Debuts for Voight

In addition to Senna Agius, we have a second local hero in Moto2. Harrison Voight makes his debut for the Preicanos Racing Team. He challenged regular driver Bo Bendsney. The Dutchman was most recently represented by Daniel Munoz, and now also by Voight.

Extended Moto2 training for the cat?

It continues with Moto2. Their training was extended to 55 minutes. This was set up to test new Pirelli tires. But the Italian tire supplier can probably ignore that given these conditions. It’s hard to imagine that it will be dry during middle class training. It starts at 12:35 a.m.

GOAL: Piqueras narrowly fails against Alonso

Although David Alonso had gained another three tenths in the final phase, he would have been quickly displaced. Angel Piqueras is only 18 thousandths slower. Behind him there is a big gap to Matteo Bertelle, who quickly loses six tenths. Only the top six can keep the gap under a second. Dani Holgado only ends up in 24th place, more than 3 seconds behind. Ivan Ortola and Jose Rueda were also unable to convince with places 17 and 20.

Zurutuza falls again

Furthermore, despite the adverse conditions, Xabi Zurutuza is the only pilot who fell. Only this has happened to him twice now, this time in turn 1. We’ve seen a few trips into the gravel before, but crashes were always avoided.

Holgado way back

When we look at the rankings of the top pilots, one clearly falls behind. Dani Holgado was only in 23rd place, 3.6 seconds behind his next-year teammate Alonso.

Even rain can’t stop Alonso

Who is ahead again? Of course David Alonso. And not just in any way. He has put over seven tenths between himself and Angel Piqueras. We have now reached 1:45.185.

Zurutuza irritated after fall

Curious scenes about Xabi Zurutuza. He causes the first fall of the day, which is harmless. He then crosses the track with his machine without it running. Now he’s standing there and doesn’t know exactly what to do. Angel Piqueras is now in the lead.

First times come in

The pilots are writing for the first time. Xabi Zurutuza is clearly the fastest man and quickly breaks the 1:50 mark. World champion David Alonso has now also reported to the track. Meanwhile, David Munoz and Adrian Fernandez engage in a completely unnecessary skirmish, but both remain seated. Both have now received a warning from the race management.

GREEN: Moto3 opens the water features

It’s starting. The traffic light turns green and it takes a few moments, but then the first drivers venture out. Of course they are on rain tires.

It rules Down Under

As expected, this is a wet affair. It already rained this morning and now it’s coming down slightly wet again from above. The route is therefore damp and will of course not dry out in this weather. 18 degrees air temperature and 17 degrees track temperature do not mean that we will see a dry ideal line here very soon. Since these conditions can occur over the entire weekend, we can still expect training operations. The pilots will want to zero in on this.
