‘No quick kills’: Court hears details about a Winnipeg couple accused of making videos depicting animal cruelty

WARNING: This story contains disturbing details.

Details are emerging about a Winnipeg couple who have been charged after police say they made and sold videos showing animals being tortured and crushed.

Chad Kabecz, 40, and Irene Lima, 55, were arrested Oct. 9 after police executed a search warrant at a home in Winnipeg’s Lord Roberts neighborhood and charged with numerous offenses, including killing or injuring animals and causing harm unnecessary suffering for human animals, Winnipeg police said last week.

During a bail hearing for Kabecz on Tuesday, Crown attorney Sean Sass alleged that Kabecz and Lima, Kabecz’s girlfriend and known online as “Goddess May,” are the owners and operators of a website on the dark web called Goddess May Barefoot Premium be crushing.

The prosecutor alleged that the two made videos of animals, particularly cats and kittens, that Lima crushed with her feet.

“These are not quick kills. As the timestamps appear to show, some of these videos are five minutes long. “It is staged, deliberate torture that results in the death of very vulnerable animals,” Sass told Provincial Court Judge David Ireland Kabecz’s bail hearing.

The court heard that in August, a City of Winnipeg animal control officer notified police about an anonymous tip he received from a user of the “dark web” – online content that doesn’t show up in regular online searches and is specifically designed to be accessed Software is required. The tipster discovered the website Barefoot Premium Crush and believed the couple was from Manitoba.

Winnipeg police began investigating and found an account on the social media site Reddit called “Fit Foot Lover” that they believed belonged to Kabecz.

Tipster has flagged content

On the Reddit page, Kabecz talked about Lima’s feet and referred to his dark website.

“For anyone following my girlfriend’s infatuation adventures, please DM me [direct message] “I know how to find your newly formed group somewhere else,” one Reddit post reads.

Sass said the tipster continued to interact with Kabecz on Reddit and received instructions on where to find the videos and how to pay. The person took screenshots of the exchange and turned them over to police, Sass said.

Other screenshots taken by the anonymous source show the graphic nature of the destruction site.

The homepage shows “an extremely graphic image that appears to show a bare foot on an animal,” said Sass. “It’s unrecognizable.”

A front-page headline described it as “a place to exchange hard-core crushes barefoot.”

“Previews of May’s work will be posted and her content will be available for purchase. Each member must provide a Barefoot Hard Crush video before participating, for further details please send a DM,” the website reads.

Court hears gruesome details about accused Winnipeg cat killers

At a bail hearing for one of the people accused of killing and torturing cats and other animals, prosecutor Sean Sass said videos of animals being trampled underfoot had been marketed on the dark web.

Sass said asking customers to provide their own crush videos was a way for Kabecz to act as a gatekeeper.

Other posts on the site purportedly written by Kabecz detail a long history of animal cruelty in Lima.

“May is 55 and has loved it since she was a little girl and she does it for her own satisfaction and pleasure,” the website says.

“She crushes barefoot because she enjoys it, because it brings her extreme satisfaction, even to the point of orgasm, without being touched. She’s one in a million.”

Police who searched the home earlier this month seized a cat carrier, several cellphones, a computer, Lima’s diary and a blue Tupperware container seen on video allegedly containing cats, the court heard.

They also collected some blood samples found in the suite, USB drives and other items.

“Unacceptable risk” with publication: Crown

At Kabecz’s bail hearing on Tuesday, defense attorney Ethan Pollock said his client was innocent until proven guilty.

“The [hearing] “It is essentially a risk assessment where we determine whether or not Mr. Kabecz can be released back into the community under conditions,” Pollock said. “My client can take the position of defense attorney.”

Sass argued that releasing Kabecz “would pose an unacceptable risk.”

“There are animals everywhere, there are squirrels, rabbits, strays, and his comments seem to indicate that they will find them anywhere and just start killing them,” the Crown attorney said.

Kabecz was eventually released on bail on the condition that he stay with his family and have no contact with Lima or animals. He is also not allowed to access the Internet.

He is due back in court on November 5th.

Lima was in court Thursday, but her case was remanded and will be rescheduled.

None of the allegations against Kabecz or Lima have been proven in court.
