A candidate’s glaring oversight has gone viral thanks to an AI-generated cover letter that landed in Delhi-based CEO Ananya Narang’s inbox. As the founder and CEO of Entourage, a content-as-a-service platform, Narang took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the amusing but frustrating mishap. The applicant, seemingly in a rush, submitted a cover letter riddled with template placeholders instead of his own personalized information.

The letter, intended for a substantive position in Narang’s company, said: “I can handle this [mention your key skills]and I’m thrilled [explain briefly how you can add value]…” Apparently, the candidate had forgotten to replace the placeholder text with relevant information, resulting in an unprofessional submission that immediately caught Narang’s attention.

Narang couldn’t help but express her disbelief by captioning the post, “I just received another application. No wonder we have so much unemployment today.”

The post quickly gained traction and social media users had a lot of fun. Many blamed ChatGPT for the error, assuming that the candidate had used the AI ​​tool to generate the cover letter but had not proofread it before hitting send. This irony was not lost on users, as the applicant was applying for a job in content services.

One user joked: “Thanks [insert name] for your interest. After reviewing your application, it appears that your submission was an unedited message generated by an AI tool such as ChatGPT.”

This incident has become a light-hearted reminder for job seekers to approach AI-generated content with caution and ensure it is properly vetted before submission. As AI becomes more integrated into our daily tasks, the need for human intervention and careful editing remains critical – especially for content-related roles.
